Every Wednesday, Administrative Editor Jordan Breen welcomes a member of the mixed martial arts media into “Press Row” on the Sherdog.com blog. This week, Breen is joined by Sherdog.com contributor Patrick Wyman.
Bellator MMA has announced its next tentpole event for June 20 in St. Louis, headlining with the Ken Shamrock-Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson bout that died under controversy seven years ago. Breen and Wyman take a look at the significance of Shamrock-Kimbo, what it reveals about Bellator and Viacom's plans to compete against the UFC and whether or not the promotion will even be effective. The two also discuss the 51-year-old Shamrock himself, his wild personal history, physical state and whether or not there's a snowball's chance in hell he could actually get a leglock.
Breen and Wyman also look at Viacom and Spike's larger combat sports strategy, the potential for five-round non-title fights in Bellator, whether or not we'll see Bellator and Glory fighters cross over to the ring and the cage and the impact of Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions project.
