Every Wednesday, Administrative Editor Jordan Breen welcomes a member of the mixed martial arts media into “Press Row” on the Sherdog.com blog. This week, Breen is joined by BloodyElbow.com founding editor Nate Wilcox.
Vitor Belfort and Ronda Rousey both headline forthcoming international UFC efforts in the coming days, and with that, both have had to deal with less-than-desirable media coverage, from Belfort dodging questions about Josh Gross' Deadspin article on his testosterone use, to Rousey hanging up on a conference call when asked about her relationship with UFC heavyweight Travis Browne. Breen and Wilcox break down the surprising similarities between Rousey and Belfort as celebrities if not athletes, why criticisms from the indigenous MMA media don't undermine their popularity and wonder whether Rousey will really be able to leave the cage for Hollywood successfully.
Breen and Wilcox also touch on Rousey's trainer Edmond Tarverdyan's recent bankruptcy and tax woes, whether or not Rousey's mother AnnMaria De Mars is the most symbolically perfect “MMA parent” and Belfort's use of his wife, former Playboy model Joanna Prado, as his new PR mouthpiece.
