Nate Marquardt, on “Beatdown,” discussing Chael Sonnen’s alleged positive steroid test after fighting Anderson Silva and whether steroids played a role in his fight against Sonnen:

“First of all, that’s not the reason he beat me. He beat me fair and square, and I feel like I know the reason he beat me. It’s because I didn’t follow my game plan. But frankly … I should be able to beat anyone in the world. It doesn’t matter if they’re on steroids. When you’re a true athlete, I think the best result from your training is to be natural and just to be healthy. I think using steroids, for a true athlete, is going to take away from your performance in one sense or another. You might get stronger, but you might get slower. You might get faster, but you’re going to get tired quicker or it’s going to shorten your career. I think there’s a lot of different [reasons] that are bad for an athlete to use steroids. Like I said, it doesn’t matter to me. I should have won anyway.”
