Brazilian TV network Globo recently broadcast an interview with legendary American wrestler Mark Schultz, who spoke with “Esporte Espetacular,” an influential sport program which airs each Sunday.
“Together, the American brothers won six world cups, three world championships and two Olympic gold medals,” opened the report. “They lived a story of glory and tragedy.”
The program showed impressive footage of the Schultz brothers’ finest moments on the mat. It also recounted the tragedy documented in the 2014 film “Foxcatcher,” which dramatized the story of the Schultzes relationship with benefactor John du Pont, who shot and killed Dave in 1996.
“The project could have been good if du Pont stayed out of it,” Schultz said. “John du Pont was the opposite of a mentor.”
Schultz was nearly brought to tears when the Brazilian reporter asked about his late brother.
“Please don’t get me to cry on TV,” Schultz said.
The interview, which was recorded at Schultz’s Oregon residence, can be seen here.
