In a matchup of young junior middleweights on national television Saturday night, the slight underdog was one who had his hand raised at the end of eight surprisingly one-sided rounds. Justin DeLoach proved to be too much for Junior Castillo to handle as he won a unanimous eight-round decision in the main event of the latest installment of Premier Boxing Champions on NBCSN.
The Scottish Rite Auditorium in San Antonio was in a frenzy during the co-featured bout as lightweight Ryan “Cowboy” Karl (12-0, 8 KOs) dominated Luis Solis (14-7-4, 12 KOs) to win a unanimous nod over eight rounds. Karl scored a knockdown in the opening frame an won with scores of 80-71, 79-72 and 78-73 to remain unbeaten.
Junior welterweight prospect Darwin Price looked terrific in handing Semajay Thomas (7-1, 4 KOs) his first pro loss. Price (13-0, 11 KOs) was the much more accurate of the two and landed the cleaner, more telling blows and nabbed the judges’ verdict thanks to tabs of 79-72 and 80-71 (twice).
