WEC veteran L.C. Davis will return to the promotion that launched his career on Jan. 28 when he meets the undefeated Jared Downing at Titan Fighting Championships 16 in Kansas City, Kan. First reported by Sherdog.com in December, the featherweight tilt on Monday was officially announced by the promotion.
Davis was released by the WEC after suffering back-to-back losses in the second half of 2010, having been choked out by Josh Grispi at WEC 49 and decisioned by Raphael Assuncao at WEC 52. The 30-year-old had previously won three straight inside the blue cage, taking decisions over Javier Vazquez, the world-ranked Diego Nunes and Deividas Taurosevicius. Davis, who recently spent time training under Pat Miletich in Iowa, began his career with nine straight wins, six of which came under the Titan FC banner.
A member of the Iowa-based Team Hard Drive, Downing holds a perfect mark as a professional. He has twice competed and won inside Bellator Fighting Championships at 135 pounds, most recently taking a split decision over Bellator bantamweight tournament participant Danny Tims in October.
TFC 16 will emanate from Memorial Hall and is scheduled to be broadcast live on HDNet. The bill also features a heavyweight duel between former UFC champion Tim Sylvia and “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 participant Abe Wagner, a showdown of Kansas City welterweights Jason High and Rudy Bears and a middleweight scrap pitting UFC vet Drew McFedries against Gary Tapasua.
