Rising featherweight contender Alberto Machado kept his unblemished record in tact with a dominant performance over 10 rounds Friday night, capping off a solid Golden Boy promotions card that was televised on ESPN2.
The Puerto Rican was masterful and was awarded with a well-earned unanimous decision. The judges scored it 99-90 (twice) and 98-91 for the local fighter, who scooped up a regional 126-pound title along the way. Morales dropped to 16-2-3 with 6 KOs.
In the televised co-feature, bantamweight prospect Nate Green was knocked off his feet in the second to win a disputed eight-round unanimous decision over Emanuel Rivera. Green (9-2, 2 KOs) boxed well in spurts, but Rivera (17-2, 11 KOs) was the aggressor and appeared to have landed the overall better punches. The fight was close but all three judges sided with Green with scores of 77-74; many in the crowd booed the verdict.
